Non-kismet: Audio in YouTube on Linux dr Finally being sick of not having audio working in YouTube on Linux, while audio DID work everywhere else, I spent some time in strace and on google and figured it out. The flash player writes states into ~/.macromedia/ ... Argh! Non-cookie permanent states stored on my system! Quit your browser. Wipe that directory. Start your browser again. Enjoy. Turns out that YouTube once broke their player so that if you changed the volume in Linux, it would save a broken setting in the permanent files, and never work again. This is NOT for people who have problems with audio in general in flash. This will not solve problems with no audio, or problems with oss/also/esd. This is only if your audio works everywhere else (google video, etc) and doesn't work on youtube.
