Kismet core changes (con't) dr Second round of changes to the core behavior of Kismet are in kis-devel now. These remove Kismet being installed as suid-root by default, and remove running kismet_monitor seperately. Kismet now installs as a normal binary via 'make install'. This means you have to start Kismet as root, but it will still drop privs to an unprivileged user for packet handling. Running kismet_monitor is no longer necessary, as kismet will place the cards in monitor mode as it starts. If you want to be able to start Kismet as any user, use 'make suidinstall'. BE AWARE HOWEVER THAT THIS WILL ALLOW ANY USER TO STOP YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION, because Kismet will place the card in rfmonitor. This should be safe for most users running Kismet on a laptop, but DO NOT INSTALL KISMET SUID-ROOT IF YOU HAVE UNTRUSTED USERS ON YOUR SYSTEM. The next step is to move the channel hopper logic into Kismet itself, eliminating the need to run any other commands besides 'kismet' to start monitoring and channel hopping. This should be a good thing.
