Subject:Kismet runs at home, gives "ioctl failed 22" at the survey location ... wot?

From lspci:
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [Condor Peak]
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 BGN
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 44
Memory at f2000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
Kernel modules: iwlwifi

but in kismet.conf I'm using

source=ipw2100,wlan0,Built-in

... because it won't run with source=iwlwifi (FATAL: Unknown capture source type 'iwlwifi' in source 'iwlwifi,wlan0,Built-in')

kismet is 2008.05.R1 (which was what the Ubuntu 12.04LTS repo gave me; maybe I should upgrade?)
