Subject:Kismet runs at home, gives "ioctl failed 22" at the survey location ... wot?
Date:15:16:36 29/01/2014

Ubuntu 12.04, Kismet 2008.05.R1 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T501 with "Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1000 BGN" built-in wireless card.

Works fine at home; sees my own wireless and four or five others from nearby houses. Then I take it to the charity who has asked me to have a look at WiFi problems and "sudo kismet" consistently fails thus:

Source 0 (Built-in): Enabling monitor mode for ipw2100 source interface wlan0 channel 6...
FATAL: channel get ioctl failed 22:Invalid argument

Back home again ... works perfectly. On battery or mains.

At the survey location I ifconfig'ed wlan0 down and did "iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor"; I disabled network manager; I turned off power management on the wlan card; I rebooted. And I cursed and waved my arms in the air, but all to no avail.

I cannot imagine what's different between there and here. Same laptop, it's ten minutes later and I walked between locations ... can someone suggest something (anything) to try?
