It's probably something freebsd does differently in socket-passing over IPC. What, precisely, I don't know.

Since the only socket passed requires tuntap support anyhow (and to really work right, requires tuntap with the ability to set the arphrd/dlt which I don't think the bsd one can do) you're probably fine ignoring it.
