Alerts are logged in the .alert text file (if you enabled it). They are enabled in the kismet.conf file, and listed in the readme.

Sounds like you either read the file while Kismet was running (don't do this), or you have misconfigured kismet.

> 3) Also i have installed kismet from the ubuntu software centre does that have any issues with the proper functioning of kismet???

If you didn't install the Kismet releases from the download section of this website, you're probably 5 years out of date. Ubuntu still ships a version from 2008.
