The 5 dbi is fine - once you get higher than that on an omni it starts getting a bit stupid, for most uses the 5dbi is what you want.

They're all the same power, the rest is marketing bullshit. They're reporting the EIRP (power at antenna) not power of card - they're just slapping a higher gain, crap antenna on it, and saying it's more powerful.

Go for the cheapest alfa you can find.

footnote - I've never virtualized USB from windows to a guest, because I'm not a windows person. It's worked with vbox for me virtualizing from a linux host to a linux guest, and a windows guest, and I've heard of others doing it, so you should have a fairly good shot at it, but I've never personally done it.
