Hi,

Ok, I started kismet (installed as "make suidinstall") it launched the server and then I exited without giving any source for capture. The server kept running in the background.

I was able to telnet to the kismet server and query the server capabilities. Then I started kismet again and added the interface "wlan0". And a few seconds latter the server crashed. So I am guessing it is a problem with the wireless card.

I have an Atheros AR5413 wireless card, the driver is "ath5k_pci" and it is configured with the /etc/network/interfaces file:

# The wireless interface
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wireless-essid Wlan_name
#wireless-mode managed

It connects directly to an open WiFi without any problems. Should I change the wireless-mode or disable the dhcp ?

When I run "uname -a" this is what I get:

Linux duke 2.6.26-2-686 #1 SMP Thu Jan 27 00:28:05 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

And I am running Debian 5.0.8.

Nelson
