Update on the broadcom struggle:

Found this helpful page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx

My HP-Mini uses the new BCM4353 802.11 Hybrid Wireless Controller 5.60.48.36. From kern.log:
Oct 8 08:49:12 raargh-mini kernel: [ 13.045800] eth1: Broadcom BCM4353 802.11 Hybrid Wireless Controller 5.60.48.36
Oct 8 09:19:29 raargh-mini kernel: [ 1828.376836] Broadcom 43xx driver loaded [ Features: PL, Firmware-ID: FW13 ]

raargh@raargh-mini:/var/log$ lspci -vnn | grep 14e4
08:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:4353] (rev 01)

According to this page, kernel mode is not supported (yet) for this chipset:
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43
"...14e4:4353 not supported BCM43224 a/b/g/n "

For other BCM 43xx chipsets, Monitor Mode *is* available. <sigh>

So, I'm stepping up my search for a USB WiFi card. Others on this forum recommend Proxim, and the ORiNOCO drivers seem to be supported. I found this adapter, new, supports 802.11n.
ORiNOCO 802.11a/b/g/n USB Adapter
http://www2.proxim.com/wireless-lan/orinocor-client-products/orinocor-80211abgn-usb-adapter.html

Question(s) - anyone used it? I can probably return it if it does not work, but it would be nice to know first.

Thanks,

Steve
