Subject:not able to run kismet on my laptop

As for your question : It depends on your linux distrobution, and the drivers included in your distros kernel. As you are referencing section 12 in the documentation for capture sources, it means you are talking about oldkismet. Re read section 12 in the oldkismet documentation, and you will see that you have 3 options for Broadcomm based WiFi cards, depending on the driver modules that you either have in the distro supplied kernel, or have compiled by yourself.
