Actually i went to http://bughost.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1226, where iwlwifi ( iwl3945 ) running in monitor mode is discussed.

Roughly following the steps given there:

ifconfig wlan0 down
iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor
ifconfig wlan0 up
wireshark

I can actually see packets coming in on wlan0 like:

1193 92.246725 Arcadyan_f1:c1:a8 Broadcast IEEE 802.11 Beacon frame,SN=1995,FN=0,BI=100, SSID: "WLAN-F1C125"

So I don't think it should be too difficult to make kismet capture them as well.

Alas I am a very casual programmer, so I would appreciate some hints on how to make kismet accept iwl3945 as source.
