Subject:Encryption detection / Re-Open Logfiles with Kismet
Date:09:16:57 29/03/2006

Hi!

I used Kismet 2005.01.R1a for wardriving. Reviewing die logfiles I wondered why severel public open hotspots where listed as WPA encrypted. These APs are not encrypted at all.

I tested the problem with my own AP with the following results:

Encryption | Kismet | Netstumbler
==================================================
off | None | -
| |
WEP | WEP | WEP
| |
WPA (TKIP) | WPA/WEP | WEP
| |
WPA2 (AES) | WEP | WEP

This means that die encryption detection does not work very well in version 2005.01.R1a.

Now I have installed the current version. Unfortunally I had opportunity to test wether this version shows accurate results. Has any one positive experience with that version?

I found several thousand APs with version 2005.01.R1a. Is there any possibility to re-open the corresponding logfiles with the current version an let kismet re-detect the encryption? That would be realy great!

Any other proposals or ideas how get mor accurate reaults out of my old logfiles?

Thank you very much
Ares
