The AP is totally open. However, when I try to scan (using wl or iwlist) and join, it never shows up, even when I specify BSSID, Channel etc. I see APs that had a lesser LLC rate than the one I'm trying to join (was getting 10-30 packets/s in Kismet).

Theres a lot of factors involved in being able to connect: mac filtering, signal power, etc. Being able to see a remote network in rfmon doesn't imply being able to join it in all cases. Theres no good way to know the joinable range other than to just keep trying, unfortunately.

Thanks- given that signal strength isn't happening for OpenWRT, are the 'packet stats' of any use? I have no idea what 'LLC' means, but would receiving Data rather than just LLC packets indicate a degree of signal quality? Otherwise, I guess I'll need to attach the antenna to a card and use netstumbler...
