Theres some weird problem between mips drone servers and osx drone clients. I think it has to do w/ struct packing between the two platforms, but I'm not sure.
The new drone protocol is first-draft done in newcore, and it deliberately dodges weird struct packing situations.
In the meantime, you could try changing gcc versions on OSX, but I'm not sure that will solve anything.
