BTDTGTTS.
Here's what I found out from playing with it:
(US-market Zaurus 5600, Netgear MA-701 Prism2 card)
When you use the GUI to bring up the card, the following happens:
"cardctl scheme CardResume"
"cardctl scheme qpewlan2" [this maybe a different number for you]
the above line calls
"wlan-ng start eth0" from /etc/pcmcia
this then runs, and calls
"network start eth0" from /etc/pcmcia
which tries to do a dhcp request.
The time in which kismet works, appears to be the time taken for the
dhcp request to timeout - after which the card gets shutdown again.
From the point at which "wlan-ng" finishes, the card is in a working
state. Therefore if you can arrange for the "network start eth0" call
to fail - eg by changing that line in /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng - then
you'll be left with the thing in a state where Kismet will work.
The Right Thing would obviously be to do through /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng
and work out which of the things that it does, is the one which makes
the card work. I can't be arsed, however - I have a working Kismet,
so I'm (very) happy.
