Subject:OLPC XO Marvell Libertas wireless chipset
Date:23:23:34 23/03/2008

I recently received my OLPC XO and have been tinkering with it. One of the things I was hoping to do was use it as a network discovery tool. So far almost everything I need works fine, but there's no direct support for this wireless chipset in kismet. The wireless driver appears to be native linux. It works great in Fedora 7 (pre-loaded distro) and Ubuntu 7.10 (which I'm currently running) without any special configuration. I can easily enable rf monitoring with a couple of simple commands. This would make the ultimate portable network security tool. It runs for many hours on battery power, has fantastic range under Ubuntu and is easily carried anywhere!

Are there any plans to include support for this chipset in the near future? According to the OLPC wiki, the exact chipset is:

Marvell Libertas wireless chipset, 88W8388 controller and 88W8015 radio

As far as I know, all OLPC XO laptops have this same chipset.
